Our Top Tenderly and Lovingly Chosen Picks for Style That’s “Now”

Stuff we covet and the feels we cultivate…

Lauren says:

How does this radio look remarkably modern yet vintage at the same time? Maybe because each one is handcrafted by carpenters from Indonesian villages with locally harvested new growth wood.

Or maybe because the designer, Singgih Kartono wanted to reinterpret the iconic transistor we grew up on in something other than plastic and believed that using wood “will help to build a closer relationship [between the radio and] to its user.”

Maybe it’s because it receives FM, AM and can be connected to your iPhone. Maybe because it’s pretty. Who knows?

Topie says:

Awesome choice by Lauren, though out of my price range. Getting into styles for the home is fun. I do love sites like Domino, Apartment Therapy, Elle Decor. This thing is adorable. It looks like a small alien. It would be perfect in my future Muji Hut:

I’d really be “vibing” (as the Californians say) with all this sleek simplicity that uses natural elements. I’m really into this because it’s not too girly. I have a friend who owns everything Hello Kitty and pink. While that is fine and dandy to visit and is fun, it’s not for me, for everyday, ya dig?

One Woman’s WTF is Another Woman’s Dream #OOTD

Screen Shot 2015-11-12 at 10.25.50 AM

Lauren says:

What the f*** is this? The separates don’t match and the proportions are way off. I have no idea how to even understand what’s going on here. It looks like she doesn’t have legs. Um…hair and makeup on point.

Topie says:

I adore this. It’s the angle of the photo- it does make it look like she’s floating. I’d feel like I was floating on air if I was in this. It’s comfortable looking for a top/skirt combo. I’m a fan of matchy-matchy, but sometimes, you gotta just get eclectic with it.

I love the top because the colors remind me of fall leaves, with a sash of my favorite tone of blue. The skirt has some shimmer and is that “moss green” I’m into- all very nature-y ethereal. The hair and make-up hues are very me too.

Lauren’s taking me to check out a F-21 outlet later today… She might give me an in-person slap on the wrist for this choice. LOL.

Lauren says:

I LOVE THIS. It’s real marble! for your iPhone! Why on earth would you want a marble iPhone case? Because you can, and it looks awesome. Every piece of marble is unique and incredibly durable. Perfect for the man (or woman or gender neutral person) in your life. Or yourself. I want this. *Note: This case is only compatible with iPhone 6. If you have a 6 Plus, you can go here – http://www.mikolmarmi.com/

Topie says:

I have seen this recently in a magazine in a spread about all things marble. I dig it. Marble classes up anything. It has a nice unisex quality to it- not uber femme or masculine. It’s cool, clean and stands the test of time (if only iphones lasted as long as marble). I’d feel like a stone cold fox clutching this in my hand… get it? … get it?

Black on Black Yasss, But Not on White

Screen Shot 2015-11-10 at 8.48.52 AM

Lauren says:

First of all, this girl’s hair is gorgeous. Thank you all black for letting it stand out. Other than that, this outfit is all black and all boring. (Topie is going to love it).

At least add one fun item like a colorful scarf. And these shoes. Girl, there’s snow on the ground. Stop pretending like these are comfortable.

Topie says:

Lauren knows me so well- I do love this entire outfit- except the shoes. These boots are killer- but literally- they could kill you. These boots would make Nancy Sinatra cry. They are not made for walking.

This photo could turn into a “what’s black and white and red all over?” This gal in the snow if she slips and falls. Was this styled by a man or a Californian? Does this woman want to break her ankles and her neck in the snow? Otherwise, I’m soooo comfortable in black- I can get it dirty. I can roll around on the ground, grass, etc.. Though I do like the texture of the scarf (how snuggly looking). I do have a thing for moss green or army green (being a slight military fetishist) or “loden” as some call it, and thermal-ish stuff.

I used to have hair like this (not as long) but similar in coloring- growing out an old bleach job from last year. I recently tried to put “burgundy” where the blonde used to be for a “fall/winter” look. We’ll see how this goes…

Overall- everything above the ankles gets a thumbs up!

Classic: Black & White or Blinded Me With Paranoia?

image

Lauren says:

When in doubt, wear black and white. Such a classic combo, and the “safe” colors let you play with other things like texture. Leather pants and a tweed blazer? YES.

I’ve wanted a pair of leather pants for ages, but every time I try them on, I think I look stupid. Maybe it’s just a thing that looks good on other people. Like this girl. The t-shirt keeps her from trying to hard, and the blazer and handbag keep her sophisticated. We all know how leather pants can easily look tacky, but the other ladylike pieces make this outfit anything but.

Topie says:

I love this whole look- clean lines; I have a thing for zippers (therefore I cannot be Amish), the cut of the jacket and the bag, the glasses- everything.

Except one thing- I cannot do white, ever. I would not be comfortable eating, drinking, sitting, walking or especially hanging with my dog! 😀

Once upon a time, I did like wearing head to toe white per ethereal goth guidelines, with things like colored fishnets… oh, #history-

Lauren says:

Yep, love this. It’s a perfect summer-fall transition outfit which is majorly necessary in LA where it’s still 80 degrees. Dark wash denim – check. Comfy t-shirt tucked in to show figure – check. Light sweater – check. And it’s the accessories that keep it stylish instead of sloppy. The bag is a little big for every day, but perfect for work or travel, and even the shoes look comfy.

Topie says:

I’m a total jeans and t-shirt kind of gal.

I can *almost* do this one- except the accesories- the shoes are still too high and clunky for me. The ring is a bit too big for me (it would get in the way of all the typing and tasks I need to do on a daily basis), and the glasses a bit too round. The belt and bag are not for me- too “new” and dressy. I’d pick something more vintage to round out my personal look for this.

Kinda chunky sweater wrap- pretty ok- sleeve length confused me at first like LA being 85 one day & 65 the next this week, but I’ll take it. Rolled up jeans – 100%. Soft gray top – 100%

Plaid is not always rad

Screen Shot 2015-11-04 at 10.50.24 AM

Lauren says:

Ughhhhhhh I am so sick of plaid shirts tied around the waist. Visual interest, yes, but it’s not flattering! This outfit is all sorts of wrong. The tucked in shirt will show even the slightest of bellies and I hate when people wear leggings as pants. They’re not pants. The ankle boots cut off the leg and she must have borrowed that purse from her grandma. Blech blech blech. At least her hair is pretty…

Topie says:

This color plaid kind of hurts my eye-balls and wrapped around the waist- I don’t like stuff collected and knotted there. I lived the 90s, so watching this whole look was great at first, but now it’s worn on me.

I do not do the tights as pants thing, ever. It makes me feel funny. The shirt is grunge, the boots are bo-ho and the bag just doesn’t go. Not working for me. Another one for the “agree with Lauren” pile. Is she rubbing off on me or am I just getting more observant over time? 😉
